Open Knowledge Belgium is a Belgian non-profit and the local chapter of the international Open Knowledge network, founded in 2012. It connects communities, researchers, governments and industry around a simple premise: knowledge should be free to access, use, modify and share, without legal, social or technical barriers. Its volunteers run projects and advocacy campaigns, and organise the annual Open Belgium conference.

Open Knowledge Belgium does the patient work of turning “open data” from a policy slogan into something public administrations actually practise: usable formats, clear licenses, real reuse. That overlaps directly with BeLibre’s interest in cloud procurement and public-sector dependency: open data and open source succeed or fail on the same governance decisions.
